You'll also be taught basics about loading and unloading your firearm, pistol grip, eye dominance, and the fundamentals of marksmanship and the shooting sports.
Women On Target® Instructional Shooting Clinics create more opportunities for women to learn all about firearms, and to gain confidence in newly-acquired shooting skills. You'll learn safe firearms handling, how to store your firearms safely, shooting skills, and a sport you'll enjoy for a lifetime!
NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting
With your participation in this class you will receive a Basics of Pistol Shooting Certification through the NRA.
Short Description: The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting is a hands-on practical course conducted at a range under the guidance and supervision of an NRA certified instructor. The course is intended for all adults regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA affiliation.
In Detail: Some of the topics in the course include: gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, selecting and storing a pistol, the fundamentals of shooting, and pistol inspection and maintenance.

TCJ Pistol Novice
If you have just recently participated in the NRA Basics of Pistol shooting that we offer or you have gained some beginner skills on your own, The Concealed Journey offers the next step in developing your abilities with a firearm. The next imaginable step after learning the basics would be to put those skills to use. In our Pistol Novice class students will start briefly in the classroom with a safety briefing, a refresher on the fundamentals of pistol shooting and a demonstration of range commands then quickly make their way to the range for some practical drills.
The Pistol Novice range time starts off slow with Dry Fire drills to ensure our instructors that the students have a proper understanding of safety fundamentals, grip, stance, sight alignment, loading and unloading procedures, and stable shooting positions.
After Dry Fire practice, we load up and work on honing cadence, accuracy, reloads, working through malfunctions and target acquisition with Dot Tests, follow up shots and calling multiple targets to the students which eventually becomes more complicated by adding everything together.
TCJ Pistol 1
The industry has varying degrees of exactly what constitutes a “Pistol 1” course but we at The Concealed Journey didn’t want to miss a beat in your personal journey. We wanted students to be able to take our novice class one day then be able to turn around and take our Pistol 1 the very next day.
The Pistol 1 that TCJ Provides is a direct continuation from our Novice class and allows students to spend a weekend intensely developing their skills with all the care and guidance from our Certified Instructors.
Of course, we begin with a safety briefing as always but then the TCJ P1 starts off where the Novice class left off. After regrouping on reloads, multiple target acquisitions and potential malfunctions, we incorporate barricade work, different shooting positions (standing, kneeling, prone, and supine), “getting off the “X”, and moving while shooting. Your skills will be tested and documented as you race against the shot timer to better show your skill improvement throughout the course.
Disclaimer: This is a fast-paced course that includes some swift movement and a quick mind. The Certified Instructors at The Concealed Journey will do their absolute best to accommodate for those with disabilities or those whose knees don’t quite bend like they used to.
ND Class 1 & Class 2 CWL

Class Environment
Before you walk into class, you should know what to expect inside. As with any learning environment, BLS provider classes have the equipment to teach you the basics, from AED training devices to CPR manikins. BLS certification courses require hands-on activity, so prepare yourself to get down on the floor and practice chest compressions and breaths. This means you should wear comfortable clothes that you can easily move around in.
Instruction Style
These classes consist of interactive videos, lectures, and—the most important part—hands-on skills practice within a two to four-hour classroom-based session. Though you will practice the skills with your own hands, it helps to bring a notebook to write down tips and tricks to ensure you are better prepared for the written exam. The instructors are medical professionals or highly trained individuals who will coach you through each step of the lifesaving process.
